We've had a very busy week this week learning all about caterpillars and butterflies. The children loved watching a video showing a caterpillar pupate and hatch into a butterfly. We also had real caterpillars arrive into the classroom and we can't wait to see them change into chrysalis and then butterflies too! We enjoyed lots of activities around the classroom, such as threading caterpillars with beads, playing with the insects in the small world and printing caterpillars with shapes at the creative table. We also made symmetrical butterflies with paint by folding over the paper. We played a hungry caterpillar game and coloured butterflies by numbers at the maths table and wrote lots of interesting facts at the writing table.
In English we read the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the children made a story map to go with it; retelling it afterwards.
In maths we looked at repeating patterns and created repeating pattern caterpillars and shape patterns.
Next week we need all children to have brought in a bottle to make a 'bee bottle' the week after, please. Thank to those already received.
We shall be learning all about ladybirds next week!
