The Hedgehogs have been working really hard this week, not only in Maths and English but with rehearsing their lines for the Christmas production. We are really excited to show you their hard work. Could we please ask that all the children rehearse their lines at home so they are fully prepared for their performances. Also if you have any costumes, please feel free to bring them in and we can keep them safe on our clothing rack. If you are struggling to get the costumes, please come in and talk to one of the KS1 teachers and we will be happy to discuss this.
In Maths this week, we have started our new unit on Shape. The children have been working on recognising 2D shapes and learning basic properties about shape such as 'sides' and 'points'. We went outside to draw the shapes on the playground and I am really impressed with how many shapes they knew already! We also looked at grouping shapes based on the number of sides and number of points. Next week, we will look at what 3D objects are and the many 3D shapes there are.
In English this week, we are continuing our work on instructions. We looked at how instructions are set out, looking at how time conjunctions are used (or as we call them VIP words), and we thought of ways to innovate our instructions. We have now changed one key aspect of the instructions that we have been working on. The children came up with some really imaginative ideas. We eventually decided on a class vote and we changed the important instruction 'attack the enemies' castle with soldiers' to become 'attack the enemies' castle with unicorns'! Next week, we will be writing our set of instructions and the children will get the chance to create their own imaginative set of instructions.
We have done a lot of rehearsal practice for the Christmas production. The children particularly enjoy learning the songs!
As we have done a lot of Christmas rehearsal this week, we will introduce some more topic based work on Conquerors and the Normans next week to get children inspired by their Topic Project homework!
Well done Hedgehogs!
