This week in the Hedgehogs we have been working hard, especially in our Maths and English.
In Maths, we have looked at subtraction of numbers up to 20. We have looked at subtracting counters from a number track, subtracting numbers using a number line, and subtraction using bar models and part whole models. What has really impressed me about the Hedgehogs is that they have grasped the concept of part whole models and bar models really well and are using them and drawing them, even when we are not doing Maths. Next week we will be comparing number sentences using >, < and = and then we will be finishing off our unit on Addition and Subtraction to 20. We will be learning our numbers past 50 after this coming week, and we will start looking at the times tables for 2, 5 and 10.
In English, we have looked at innovating a recount. We have produced a lot of work on recounts and we are all familiar with what one is. We decided as a class what to change and we changed the setting of one of our zoo areas. The children have enjoyed being creative and having a say in what they think needs to change. We have also looked at adjectives to describe the zoo animals and setting. Next week, we will be inventing our own recounts, and we will be inventing the recount of James McKay's visit to our school!
In Topic, the children produced animal fact files for one of the Amazon rainforest animals. The children thoroughly enjoyed picking one of a variety of animals, from sloths, to toucans, to jacamars and to jaguars! Next week, we will be learning about deforestation and the effects of deforestation on those animals.
We are very fortunate to have an exciting PE opportunity. Trainee PE coaches from South Derbyshire have kindly offered to come into Repton to teach Year 1 fundamental PE skills every Friday morning. This means that we will be doing PE on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings from now on. Please provide your child with both indoor and outdoor wear. Thank you.
We have worked really hard in the Hedgehogs' class. I would like to take the time to also say how out of the 8 classes in the whole school, we came 4th this week on Spelling Shed! Keep it up Hedgehogs!
