Weekly Update - WC 25th February

Welcome back Hedgehogs! Hope you are all ready for a fantastic, fun and productive half term!

During our first week back, we have done lots of hard work.

In Maths, we have continued our work on numbers up to 50. We have continued our work by looking at comparing numbers. We have looked at comparing numbers using cubes, comparing numbers using pictures and comparing numbers on a number square. We have used 'crocodile' symbols to compare numbers. The children are getting really familiar with understand the words 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. Next week, the children will be looking at counting in 2s, 5s and 10s by identifying patterns on a number square.

In English, each child has created their own letter as part of their hot write. All the children have invented their own letter and they have all used impressive vocabulary which made their letters incredibly fun to read. Next week, we will be starting our new genre, story writing!

In Topic, we have done a lot of work on plants this week. Each child was given a rose and our task was to label all the parts of a flower using the terms; stem, leaf, roots and petals. The children really enjoyed holding a flower and labelling their own flower. They then drew around the flower so we could keep the flowers in a vase and track the flowers' growth. We will be looking at plants for the next few weeks, so next week we will look at a tree and look  at labelling a tree in school.

In RE, we have started our work on Islam. We have looked at how Islam started and how Muhammed is really special to Muslims. We looked at some pictures of mosques and people who are Muslim. We had lots of interesting discussions and the children were really intrigued, especially with the Kaaba.

What a great week Hedgehogs, we have worked really hard!
