WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Weekly Update - WC 28th January

We have had a busy week in the Hedgehogs this week. We have had a successful week, especially in English and Maths.

In Phonics, Mr Armishaw's group have finished all their phase 5 sounds! Mr Armishaw's group will consolidate phase 5 and begin looking at different spelling patterns. Mrs Wain's group have started to look at some phase 5 sounds this week.

In Maths, we have finished our unit on Addition and Subtraction up to 20. We looked at how we could use our 'crocodile' signs >, < and  = to compare number sentences such as 16+2 > 10+3. We used lots of lovely language such as 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. We finished the unit by doing a little test to consolidate our learning. Next week, we will be starting to look at numbers to 50. We will be using number tracks, and number squares to help us with our counting.

In English, we have finished our unit on recounts and all the children's 'Hot Writes' were amazing! The children really grasped how to write a recount; they showed examples of time conjunctions, conjunctions, suffixes, adjectives and some children even started to use commas in their work! Next week, we will be learning the genre of letter writing. We will start by doing a 'Cold Write' and then learn what a good letter looks like.

Because we worked so hard in our Maths and English, in Topic we had an arty lesson - we made paper plate toucans! It was such a fun lesson, children loved decorating their toucan by using the colour of toucans that they had found online. See the pictures below for our exciting creations!
