Welcome back! I hope you have all had a restful 2 weeks off during the Easter break.
This term in Hedgehogs we have started our new topic, "Under the Sea". In this topic, we will be looking at sea creatures of the world, oceans, the Titanic, experimenting with water colours and painting the sea side. On the 14th May, Hedgehogs and Otters will be going to Birmingham Sea Life Centre to learn more about sea creatures and to be fully immersed in the topic. We are very excited to be going.
In Maths this week, we have started our new unit of Multiplication and Division. We have been learning about putting objects into groups and learning how we can add groups together. We have been learning the sentence "There are __ groups and __ in each group. Some children have extended their learning by writing addition sentences about the groups! We have looked at the 'x' symbol and have explored how we can use the symbol to make multiplication sentences. We will carry this on next week as it is a bit tricky. Next week, we will also look at arrays and how we can link multiplication to that as well.
In English this week, our book for this term is the Rainbow Fish. We are starting to learn the book, "The Rainbow Fish" through actions and through a story map. Next week, we will innovate the story of the Rainbow Fish and come up with some exciting adjectives for that animal.
In Art, we used watercolours, paper foil and other different materials to design our own Rainbow Fish. These will be showcased in the bay area on our newly designed topic wall.
A super start to this short term Hedgehogs!
