Well, it feels like we have been back at school for much longer than a week!
It's been lovely to get to know all of the new Eagles and I feel we are going to have a good year! We have started as we mean to go as Year 5s and got on straight the way with our maths and english work.
In maths we are starting our place value unit and this week we have represented numbers up to 10,000, 100,000 and recapped rounding: a very tricky concept and there's a lot to remember! We have looked at building the numbers pictorially and representing them with bar models and part-whole models. It's been a great week and the Eagles have really impressed me with their mathematical knowledge.
In English we have started our unit on a 'lost tale' based on Sarah, who is being evacuated. She loses a treasured photo of her father and luckily she finds it! This will form the basis of our unit and we will write our own lost tale with a WW2 theme soon.
Talking of WW2, this is our history unit for this year and at RPS we are slightly changing the way we do Topic. For one whole term history will be our focus and we are all very excited about this momentous time in our history. We will start our official topic lessons next week along with RE, french, computing, PHSE and lots of others.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday,
Miss Jordan and the Y5 team.
