This week has been another busy week in Eagles that has seen them collate all of the information we have learnt about World War II and create a non-chronological report about the effect it had on Britain and its people. I can’t wait to begin reading them!
In Maths we have carried on with our unit on Multiplication and Division. We have looked at multiplying 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 number using the formal method and we have move onto long multiplication at the end of the week. The children have worked very hard on this; however, any continued work on their times tables will only be beneficial!
In English all of our hard work and research is coming together in what looks like some brilliant non-chronological reports.
We had a brilliant trip to Beaumanor Hall last week. The children got to experience life as an evacuee, they spent time in a WWII style classroom, created some Christmas decorations and write Christmas cards home. They also learnt about how German spies would have been detected. A not very precise method as we found out. All of the children also experienced what life as a codebreaker and a listener would have been like if they had worked at Beaumanor Hall or Bletchley. Carrying out vital work that was argued to have shaved two years of the length of the war. In the afternoon the children spent time in the Hall’s underground air raid shelter and thought about what it would have been like to celebrate Christmas in there. We also had a surprise visit from Father Christmas. This was a brilliant way to end what has been an incredibly interesting and thought-provoking topic. It has made me very proud to see how the Eagles have engaged so brilliantly with everything they have learnt, had so much empathy for the people we have learnt about and absorbed everything they have been taught. Well done Eagles!
Our Christmas Party is next week on Friday 17th December. Thank you in advance for you donations of party food. The children can come dressed in their party clothes next week on Friday.
Thank you also for your donations of material for our make do and mend project. We are excited to see the finished product.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Stay safe
