ReptonPrimary School

What a fantastic first week back we had with your children!

It was lovely to start getting to know all of the children this week and for them to learn our routines and understand our rewards and expectations. The children who were new to the school have fitted in perfectly and started making lots of new friends. We have mainly focussed on “Getting to know you” activities and initial assessment activities to get a clear picture of children’s strengths and areas for development.

From Monday 13th, we will start our main curriculum. In English we will start with a block of work on poetry and in Maths we will we learning about place value. Our topic will get off to a fantastic start with a visit from Portals to the Past on Tuesday.

A big thank you to those who have been hearing children read every day. This is such an important part of your child’s development. To support them, please do lots of talking about the text, ask questions and discuss new vocabulary. Please put a quick note in the record book to show you have worked with them.

The two other activities that we ask you to help children with during the week, are learning spellings and times tables. The children were all given 10 spellings last Friday that we will test next Friday. They also have Spelling Shed log in details to help them play games and have fun learning the same spellings.

We will consolidate 2, 5 and 10 times tables over the first few weeks as these should have been consistently known by the end of year 2. After that we will move on to 3,4 and 8 times tables as the year progresses. During this week, we would like them to refresh 2 times tables please. Try to make it as much fun as possible. There are lots of fun activities on the internet such as Hit the Button. During the week we will also check all children have a log in for Times Tables Rock Stars and give them a chance to try it out at school.

Working in partnership to support your child is essential, so please contact us with a message in their record books, or a chat at home time if there is anything we can help you with or you have a question.
