We have had a fantastic first week of curriculum lessons this week.
The highlight of our week, was definitely the visit form Björn the Viking! He taught us lots about the times of the Anglo Saxons and Vikings who once lived in this area. We found out about the lives of ordinary people as well as great leaders and warriors. The children enjoyed learning about armour and weapons and took part in a spear throwing contest! (Don’t worry, only foam javelins!) To finish the day, they took part in a reconstruction of the Battle of Hastings, learning about the tactics employed leading to the victory of William the Conqueror and the end of the Viking and Saxon period.
In English we have used symbols and actions to learn a poem with alliteration and we will be covering more work on this next week.
In maths, we have been using number and place value up to thousands.
Your children have their first piece of homework this week. Please ask them to complete this and return it by Friday of next week at the latest. The following week they will have English homework. This work is in addition to reading, spelling and times tables. We would like to thank the families who have been doing this with their children every day!
Next Thursday 23rd September, straight after school, we will hold our Meet the Teacher session. This will only last 20 minutes or so and is a chance to learn about our routines and expectations and ask any questions about your child’s class. To try and limit contact, we would prefer if only one parent per family attended this please.
Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
