We have had a super week in Squirrels. In English, we have completed our own adventure stories and the children have tried very hard to include features such as short sentences, adverbial openers and different ways to start sentences such as using ‘ing’ words.
In maths, we have continued working on time. This can be quite a difficult concept to grasp as we say times in different ways. Eg 5 to 6 and 5:55. Children who requested some additional work were given it during the week. Please try to spend a little time practising time during the week and ask if you need any more support materials.
In our topic work, we found out about how the sun can be used to heat water and the best colours to use to absorb heat. The children were surprised at how warm the water was in the solar shower by early afternoon (42 degrees), warm enough to use for a shower!
The children have also learned about what bees need to survive and they have designed a bee friendly garden for the Radio 2 Big Bee Challenge. We have sent home their designs so you can submit them to the competition either via the online upload or by post. Entries can be made from Monday 7 June 2021 and the closing date is 6pm on Monday 5 July 2021.There are some fantastic prizes!

Finally, we are planning a morning visit to St Wystan’s Church in Repton on Thursday 8th July to look at the stained-glass windows. We will be looking at the way light can make beautiful designs and tell stories and learn about the history and reasons for some of the window designs. If the weather is good we will then complete some drawing in the church grounds. A permission slip will be sent home next week.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Walters and Mrs Baxter
