WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

28.2.20

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely holiday.

This week we have started looking at our new English genre of stories from other cultures. We have learned a short text off by heart by using signs and symbols. We have also analysed the features found in the text type to make our writers tool kit.

In Math,s we have continued learning about fractions and in particular equivalent fractions. The children have done well in recognising that you can convert between fractions by multiplying or dividing both the numerator and the denominator. It is work like this that makes it so essential that children have quick recall of multiplication and division facts. Please continue to encourage your child to learn these.

We have a very exciting week next week with a focus on World Book Day. We will all be reading stories to the children over the week, we have the book swap and dress up day on Thursday and each class will focus on a particular book for the week to produce a piece of writing for the end of the week. Some examples from each class will go on display.

In Squirrel’s, we will be studying Little Mouse’s Big book of Fears. We will be talking about early childhood worries that they might have had and we will write a recount based on one.

On Thursday we will be making collages in the style of a scrapbook to display their writing. The children will be decorating their writing in interesting ways and we would be grateful if you could help with some of the resources needed.

If possible, could your child bring in a photo of themselves to stick on their page? Ideally this would be a photo of your child when they were younger.

Also, any bits and pieces of interesting fabric, paper, buttons, labels, stickers etc. that you can spare to share and decorate their pages would be much appreciated.

Finally, there will be no swimming next week as Repton School requires use of the pool.
