WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

9.10.20

We have had a lovely week in Squirrels this week and have managed to get out most days in spite of the rain.

In English, we have been looking at letters of complaint. We have found out about the structure of the letter and how to develop the main points by explaining what we are unhappy about and what we would like to be done to resolve our problems.

Please continue to hear your child read several times a week and record your comments in the reading diary.

In Maths this week, we have started work on addition, recapping some year 2 work and moving on to year 3 work dealing with using hundreds, tens and ones. Next week we will start to look at subtraction moving from tens and ones to hundreds, tens and ones. We use a range of methods starting with practical equipment, moving to representing ideas in drawing and finally more formal written methods. This way the children can develop a clear understanding of where the numbers come from and what is happening to them, particularly when crossing boundaries of place value.

Please continue to work on times tables as we can see real improvement in those who regularly practise at home. Please remember that although learning tables in order to start with is helpful, they will be tested in random order. As they improve they will also be given division questions to show inverse understanding. For example, 2x3=6 and 6÷3=2.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Walters and Mrs Baxter
