Welcome to Squirrels’ class!

It has been lovely to get to know all of the children this week. They have all looked so smart in their uniforms and worked really hard with all of the new tasks and routines. The children new to the school have started making new friends and are settling in really well.

The children now all have reading books and library books along with a reading/ homework record book. Please try to hear your child read several times a week, every day if possible. Talk about unknown words and ask lots of questions about the content of the book. Please make a brief note in the record book on the relevant day. Please also make a note in here of anything else you think we need to know. Books will be changed as they are completed and staff feel they have a good understanding. Please remember, it is not how fast books can be read that is important, but the depth of understanding. Reading books can be supplemented with reading library books or other books from home and this can also be written into record books.

All of the children now have a log in for Spelling Shed and the first lists have been set. These may be adapted slightly for some children as we assess their individual needs over the next few weeks. Children will be given a set of spellings to learn each Friday which will then be assessed the following Friday. Children love using Spelling Shed and trying to get high class scores to get on the school leader board.

Other homework will start from next week. This is usually a short piece of Maths or English. This will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday at the latest.

You should by now all be set up with Parent Hub and Parent Pay. Please let the office know if you have not got this. Parent Hub is really useful if we need to send out little messages or reminders.
