We looked at the white flowers and thought about how we could make them bright and colourful. We decided to see if we could make them change colour to red. After a discussion where lots of ideas were shared, we decided to add lots of red food colouring to the water. We waited and watched the flowers. We realised that this was going to be a slow experiement where we would have to keep observing it over time. Gradually, the petals started to change colour after a few days. The children learned that the flower sucks the coloured water up the stem and when it gets to the top of the flower, the red colouring shows on the petals.
