Match Report 5th April

A tremendous performance saw us finish in 3rd Place on a hot Wednesday afternoon at Shobnall.

With several players competing for the first time we began strongly, with experienced Captain, Clara, leading from the front with some deft touches. With her and Alex managing to dominate the midfield exchanges in the group matches we managed to get through the rounds unbeaten and rarely threatened. Aidan was proving a real force as last defender, especially considering that much of our opposition was obviously Y6, and also began many of our dangerous counter attacks. Joshua was only really busy in goal trying to keep cool.

We eventually finished our group in 2nd place and so progressed to the semi-finals.

Our opposition, Pennine Way, were well drilled and had an experienced club hockey coach to their advantage. Although we spent much of the game defending, we did create chances and were certainly not outclassed. That said, a 1-0 loss was justified overall.

To lose to the eventual winners was no embarrassment - we worked hard all afternoon, had a young and small mixed team, many of whom were playing for the first time. They performed as a real team - everyone contributed something to our overall success and they were a real credit to themselves and their school!
