WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Music

Intent - What do we intend our children to learn through music?

At Repton Primary School, within our music curriculum, we encourage our children to respect that everybody has their own individual taste in music. By listening to a variety of music (from a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions) and by encouraging our children to be reflective and expressive, they are able to develop their own appreciation of music. The opportunities that we provide within our music curriculum allow our children to take pride in the performances that they are involved in - both in and out of school. All children are actively encouraged and given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument: from standard classroom instruments; to whole class instrument lessons and to individual instrumental lessons with the visiting peripatetic staff. Throughout the school, from Early Years to Year Six, children have opportunities to explore sounds, listen actively, compose and perform. Therefore, we hope that our pupils will be successful in continuing to grow in confidence as they progress through the musical curriculum and become passionate in their responses to music.
