Topic

This week we are asking - 'What is a ladybird?'.

 

Choose from the activities below.

Watch the powerpoint below, then provide a variety of questions about ladybirds.

Questions to include:

How many legs does a ladybird have? Why is a ladybird red? How does the ladybird smell? What does it use its antennae for? What does a ladybird like to eat? What does a ladybird do if it is attacked?

Ask your child,  'Where are the ladybirds’ wings? Explain that the red and black “shells” are not wings. These are called wing cases. The ladybird lifts up the wing cases to uncurl its wings. Explain that the wings are so thin and delicate that they need protecting. Tell the children that the videos they will see are in slow motion and they will show a ladybird taking off to fly.
