Friday 8 May is the 75th anniversary of Victory over Europe, when the nation will join together to commemorate the service and sacrifice of the WWII generation then and now.
Below, you will find resources that have been created by the Royal British Legion and the National Literacy Trust. These have been specially designed for home learning and include family-friendly activities and support for you when talking to your children about VE Day and Remembrance.
There are some lovely activities to have a go at, which are explained towards the end of the PowerPoint.
1. Plan a VE day party menu. Look at food rationing and perhaps even have a go at making a war time recipe. You could make a cake or some lemonade to share with your family on VE day.
2. Create a peace display.
3. Transport yourself back in time and write a VE diary entry.
4. Learn some 1940s dance moves. There is a link to the Lindy Hop on the PowerPoint.
Please make sure that you look at the notes part of the PowerPoint as these provide more information and talking points to help understand each of the slides.
I have had a bit of trouble uploading the resources here. I have managed to put a few of them up but you can go straight to the website and download them https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/teaching-remembrance You need to go to the bottom where it says VE Day resources for home.
