ReptonPrimary School

WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

wb 30/11/2020

We have had another packed week in Foxes!  Although we have done some assessments this week we have also done lots of exciting things and have begun to get our classroom ready for the Festive period.

Within English we have begun looking at Diary Entries linked to the Christmas Truce.  We have text mapped an example diary entry, looked at all of the features of a diary entry and created a check list for when we write our own.  Next week, we hope to use the Forest School area to create some trenches and act out the story of the truce using toy soldiers - obviously this will be weather dependent.

Maths has involved Year 4 carrying on looking in depth at the different times tables and answering questions that involve them. Year 5 have moved on from multiplication and division and begun looking at Perimeter - and the different methods of finding it.

Within Science we have carried on learning more about Electricity.  We predicted whether a bulb would light or not depending on whether a circuit was complete or incomplete. Next week we will plan and then carry out a Science experiment involving investigating which materials conduct electricity and which act as insulators.

We also had our weekly visit from Derbyshire Music Hub and practised playing the flute. It is lovely to hear the progress each week. Clair also began to teach us the makaton actions for the song 'White Christmas' and we'll be learning more next week.

Our spellings this week are:

Year 4: Challenge Words – complete, continue, experiment, famous, favourite, February, naughty, knowledge, remember

Year 5: Challenge Words - accommodate, available, controversy, dictionary, marvellous, opportunity, secretary, sincerely, suggest, twelfth.

General Reminders (there's a few sorry!):

*In our PE lesson on Monday, we will be taking part in an archery session so please ensure your child has a long sleeved top (either t-shirt or jacket) so their arms are protected against the movement of the bow.

*If the weather is dry we will go into the Forest School area on Monday afternoon, so please can you ensure your child has warm outdoor clothing: a winter coat, hat and gloves.

* Friday 11th December is Christmas Dinner and Christmas jumper day! Please see the newsletter for more details.

*Could we please remind you to bring in your £1 donation for our Christmas party food by Fri 11th Dec, thank you.

Thanks

Mrs Webb
