Well we’ve certainly come back to school with a ‘bang’! They all looked fab today in their 'firework' colours! A fantastic, busy week for the Foxes.
On Tuesday we had our first session (of 10) with Derbyshire’s Music Partnership and it was fantastic. The children began to learn some songs – complete with actions – and think about pitch and rhythm. In a few weeks, the children will begin to learn how to play an instrument and will be able to choose between the flute and clarinet.
Thursday was the 5th of November so we did some investigating into who Guy Fawkes was and then the class created some fabulous firework artwork using chalks, a skyline outline and black paper.
In English, we’ve been looking at the features of non-chronological reports in preparation for writing our own in the next few weeks. Some super factual sentences were created using parenthesis to add in extra details.
In Maths, Year 4 have been thinking about the different measurements of length and linking this to perimeter whilst Year 5 have been completing their statistics unit by looking at tables and timetables.
The highlight of the week for me was our author ‘visit’ today. Arranged by Repton Literary Festival, Tom Palmer visited us virtually this morning to tell us about his books and the things that inspire him as an author. It was really lovely to hear the questions for Tom that the children came up with and many were keen to read some of his books that he talked about.
A busy week!
Next week we will be having a PE session with Premier Sport in addition to our normal PE lesson so please can the children come in their PE kits on Monday AND Tuesday.
