WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 14th November 2022

We have had a packed week this week, it has included Big Swims, making decisions and applying to be Roman Soldiers.

In Maths this week we have finished our Addition and Subtraction unit.  We have looked at inverse operations, estimating calculations and making decisions.  In making decisions the children had to decide how to complete different calculations and word problems.  Have a look at this True or False question, can you explain it to one of your grown-ups.

Our English this week has involved us completing our Hot Writes.  All of the children worked so hard on completing their stories.  They included so many of the features that we have learnt about, including expanded noun phrases, wonderful description and following of their plans brilliantly.  Well done Puffins, some super English work.

We had the wonderful opportunity of taking part in The Big Swim this week.  The children had a brilliant hour in Repton School pool doing four different activities.  These included some life saving skills, swimming underwater and practicing different strokes.  A great time was had by all.

In our Topic lessons this week we learnt about the different levels of society in Roman times.  We talked about what Plebeians did and what life would have been like as a Roman Emperor.  Can you tell you grown up what jobs a Plebeian would have done?  We rounded off the week by applying to be Roman soldiers.  We thought about the skills they would have needed and why it would have been such a good prospect for a Roman man.

The children all looked brilliant in their Children in Need spots and stripes outfits, thank you for your generous donations to a wonderful cause.

This week has been Anti-Bullying week, this year’s theme was ‘Reach Out’.  Wearing our odd socks on Monday helped us focus on how everyone is different and these differences should be embraced.  In our PSHE lesson this week we thought about what we could to do reach out to people who might be being bullied or who are struggling. We made tokens to fill our kindness jar of ways we could help and support people.  Some very kind thoughts and ideas Puffins.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend

Stay safe
