A super second week in Puffins class.
This week we started our brilliant new topic focused on the wonderful book “Lights on Cotton Rock” by David Lichfield. We are using this book for the inspiration in many of our lessons including English which this week has focused on how we can develop characters in our own stories and make them more detailed for the reader. We have also looked at how we can Show the reader how a character is feeling, not just Tell them. The children wrote some brilliantly detailed sentences and paragraphs describing different emotions.
Within Maths we have continued learning about Number and Place value and have also looked at rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. We have used the always useful rhyme “5 and above, give it a shove, 4 and below, get down low!”
“Lights on Cotton Rock has also inspired our Topic lessons this term, which this week focused on History and the Space Race. We carried out some research about important dates and people who were involved in this very important Historical and Technological era. Next week we will create a timeline from all the dates we have found.
We also had our first Celebration Assembly of the year, it was slightly different as we all stayed in our classrooms and saw each other over Microsoft Teams, which was very exciting and after a few technical hitches worked really well!
From next week our PE lessons will be swapping to Tuesday so if the children could come in their PE kit then, suitable for both indoor, or outdoor PE that would be brilliant, thank you!
Our spellings this week are:
Year 4: List 2 – ‘in’ means ‘not’ – inactive, incorrect, invisible, insecure, inflexible, indefinite, inelegant, incurable, inability, inadequate.
Year 5: List 2 – Words ending in ‘cious’ – delicious, atrocious, conscious, ferocious, gracious, luscious, malicious, precious, spacious, suspicious.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to another super week!
