Another great week from the Hedgehogs! This week, the children have been doing some exciting new learning.
In our English learning this week, we have been learning how to write recounts. We have been learning the text, "The Queen's Hat" and we have learnt it so well that we have now written our own version of the recount. The children have produced some fantastic pieces of work and have really applied the vocabulary that has been used in the text. We then had a SPAG lesson on time conjunctions, as we have seen these types of words in our model text. Can you remember the 5 time conjunctions that we have used in English? Can you tell a grown up a sentence that might have a time conjunction in it? We looked at the time conjunctions; first, then, next, after and finally.
In our Maths learning this week, we have been focusing on subtraction. We have learnt that the subtraction symbol (-) can also be called 'take-away', and we can take away amounts. We have learnt various strategies to subtract. We have learnt how to 'cross-off' when taking away. We have learnt how to write subtraction sentences using 'first, then and now' grids and we have used the number line to subtract. See if you can write a subtraction sentence for each of the pictures below.
In Topic this week, we have started our new unit on London and its landmarks. We have used Google Earth to look at all the big landmarks in London. I have attached the link below for you to see. The children loved seeing all the different landmarks in London, especially when we were on Street View! We then had a task of cutting the London landmarks and placing them on a black map of London using a key. The children enjoyed being detectives!
This week, I awarded a SUCCESS certificate and 2 leaves this week. Who will it be next week?
A great week Hedgehogs, 3 more weeks till we finish this term!
