WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/C 17.10.22

Happy Half-Term!

We have had a great last week of term.

In maths, we have completed our first unit of work: Place Value. This week, we have been exploring 'tens' and 'ones' and partitioning numbers in different ways. Can you partition the numbers below into 3 different ways? Look at my example to help you:

        Try partitioning the numbers 25, 78, 53

We have now started our new unit of work: Addition and Subtraction. This week, we recapped our number bonds to 10. Can you complete your number bonds to 10 below?

1 + __ = 10

2 + __ = 10

3 + __ = 10

4 + __ = 10

5 + __ = 10

In English, we have been editing our instructions. We checked for full stops, capital letters, time conjunctions, adjectives, commas for lists and imperative verbs. Show someone at home how you would edit the work below:

We also recapped our learning from this term. Using the picture below:

- write a list

- write an expanded noun phrase

- write a question

In topic, we have been looking at the invention of the 'Rocket' steam engine, the post box, the stamp and the telephone. Can you tell someone at home who invented these? Why were these successful inventions?

Key Messages

  • We are very excited to announce that this year the Year 1 and Year 2 classes will be joining together to produce a KS1 Christmas nativity performance. Our nativity is called “Lights, Camel, Action!”. Repton School have very kindly offered the Repton 400 Hall for our performance. The performance will take place on Friday 16th December commencing at 2:00pm at the Repton 400 Theatre.

  • This half-term, we have completed our first unit of work in maths, place value, and have begun our second unit of work, addition and subtraction. I have produced a couple worksheets for the children to complete over the half-term break, covering the two topics. These were sent home with the children on Thursday. However, if you need another copy, please find this below. This homework is optional. However, we do recommend your child spends a little time going over some areas of the worksheets to consolidate their learning.
