W.C. 17.5.21

First of all, a big thank you to all the parents that I have spoken to this week. It has been a pleasure to speak about such a fantastic group of children. We have had a fantastic and fun week. We had our fun sports enrichment day  where the children took part in "zorbing" and "laser-tag" which the children loved!

In our Maths learning this week, we finished our unit on measuring by comparing and measuring capacities of different containers. We looked at how tall containers may not necessarily contain the most amount of liquid and that it depends on the width of a container as well. We then started our new unit of multiplication and division. We started by looking at equal groups this week. We started by looking at the words equal and unequalWe then made some equal groups using numicons, tens and ones, and cubes. We then looked at how we can use equal groups to do some addition number sentences. Can you get some resources to show the addition sentences;

5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = ____

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = _____

10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10+ = _____

In our English learning this week, we have been learning a new type of model text. We have been learning a persuasive letter about how we can help save the environment and reduce plastic pollution. We have been learning the text by drawing text maps, looking at key vocabulary, and sequencing the letter. Can you remember the reasons why plastic is bad for the environment? What ways can we help to reduce the amount of plastic that is in our school?

In our Topic learning this week, we have been continuing our work by looking at plants. On Tuesday, we went into Forest School and took the IPADS with us to take pictures of all the different wild plants we could see in there. We found loads! We then stuck the photos in our books and recorded what the names of the plants were. We then looked at common flowering plants as well. We talked about what flowers we see in our gardens and in our parks. We then designed our own garden using the flowers we had learnt in the lesson. If you have a garden at home, or you are near to a park, go and have a look to see what different flowers you can see!

Celebration Assembly

This week, I awarded a leaf, and TWO certificates; a SUCCESS and a RESPECT certificate. A child in the Owls class also received a leaf from me as well. Well done to all those children.

One more week till the half term Hedgehogs. Have a lovely, relaxing weekend and I will see you all next week.
