Another brilliant week in Year 2!

In maths, we have been adding and subtracting 1-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers using our base ten, counters and column method. We have been looking a addition sums where no regrouping is needed (e.g. 52 + 4), and addition sums where regrouping is required (e.g 56 + 7). Similarly, we have been working out subtraction sums where we do not need to borrow from the 10s (e.g. 48 - 6), and subtraction sums where we do need to borrow from the 10s (e.g. 44 - 8). The children have worked really hard! We will continue with this after half-term.

In English, we have been looking at a variety of SPAG techniques such as expanded noun phrases, apostrophes for contractions and adding -er and -est to adjectives. Can you tell someone at home what an expanded noun phrase is? E.g. 'The __________ , ________ snow'.

In topic, we have continued to learn about real-life heroes. This week, we were learning about the role of a Fire Fighter. We had a fantastic morning at Beeston Fire Station learning about the job of a Fire Fighter and how we can keep ourselves safe. We tried on a real Fire Fighter uniform, sat in the fire engine and sprayed water from the fire hose. Please visit our 'Topic' page to see all of the brilliant photos! Can you tell someone at home something you found out about the job of a Fire Fighter?

It was great to see some of you at our project afternoon on Tuesday. The children created some fantastic superhero portraits and super vehicles. I am very proud of all of their efforts!

Some of the children have asked for some maths work to complete over the half-term holiday. This half-term we have covered two topics in maths, place value and addition and subtraction. I have produced two work sheets for the children to complete, covering the two topics of maths. Please note that this homework is completely optional and please do not feel this has to be completed. If children do wish to complete all or some of the worksheets, please could they bring them in on the first week back after the half-term holidays. All of the children received a copy of the homework on Friday, however, I have also attached it onto here.

Have a fantastic half-term break, the children really deserve it!
