WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W.C. 21.3.22

We have had a fantastic week this week! Well done Hedgehogs! Look below to find out what we have been learning about!

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been focusing on comparing numbers up to 50 using the comparison symbols; < (less than), > (greater than) and = (equal to). The children have been working on using base 10 to help compare numbers. We have learnt to look at the number of tens first to help compare numbers, and then if the number of tens are the same, then we look at the number of ones!

Here are a few challenges that you can do at home;

You can also practise comparing numbers using this fun, interactive online game!

English

In our English learning this week, we have been learning a new type of text. We have been learning a rhyming poem all about Africa! You can find the poem attached in the PDF below. We learnt the poem through actions, and then as a class, we created a story map using the Mighty Writer. (which you can find a picture of below). Finally, we created our own story maps in our books. Can you have a go at looking at the Mighty Writer Story map and see if you can tell your grown-up all about it? What are the rhyming words? What bit made you laugh or smile?

Topic

In our Topic learning, we have been learning about the history of Kenya's flag and why Kenya's flag has the three colours and the symbol in the middle. We discussed the importance of Kenya's history and how Kenya has had problems with the British. We also touched on other flags in the world and how they all have different meanings? Can you describe why Kenya has different colours on its flag?

We also had a fun lesson on Friday where we thought about our RPS values. We pretended to be a class teacher and we were thinking of reasons as to why Kenya deserved a "Star of the Week" certificate! We were thinking of reasons by looking at all our learning of Kenya. The children thought of really thoughtful reasons why Kenya deserved either a RESPECT, PRIDE or a SUCCESS certificate, and children also thought of reasons why Kenya did not deserve certain awards too. We had some fantastic discussions! If you were a teacher, what award would you give Kenya and why?

What a fantastic week everybody! Enjoy the sunshine and we will see you all next week. Enjoy the sunshine!
