A packed week in Puffins. Consisting of lots of rounding, estimating numbers on a number line and comparing numbers to 10,000. In English we have thought about the actions of our characters and created setting descriptions. Read on to find out more…
This week in Maths Year 4 have been flexibly partitioning numbers up to 1000 as well as rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
In Year 5 we have continued with our Place Value unit by comparing and ordering numbers to 100,000 as well as rounding up to the nearest 100,000. Although this was a tricky concept for us Year 5 worked incredibly hard to understand this idea. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
In English we have been studying ‘The Rain Player’ in even more detail. We have written a setting description as well as written an action scene between Chac and Pik. Our week ended with us planning our Mayan folk tale. We thought about the different issues that our Maya village could have had, what Gods could be linked to this problem and what challenges they may have to overcome to defeat the God. Next week will see us write our own Maya folk tale.
Our Topic lesson this week saw us learn about all of the different parts of a Maya city, how they were built and what they were used for. From this information we created leaflets describing the importance of these different buildings to the Maya culture.
We had some budding architects in Art this week as we created blueprints for houses that we had studied, as well as creating our own dream building. We had Puffin hotels, football stadiums and houses with pools! The Puffins can definitely design a house for me one day.
Next week we will carry on with our Science investigations which will see us carry out our thermally efficient experiments. Watch this space to see which materials keep are the most thermally efficient!
As always, have a lovely weekend.
Stay safe
