WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

WC. 26.4.21

Welcome to today's learning of the week. The Hedgehogs have impressed me, Mrs Wain, Miss Morris and Miss Abbott this week with their fantastic learning. Look below to find out what we have been up to.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have continued our work on measuring length and height. Our big, new learning for this week has been on how to use a ruler and how we can measure in centimetres. We started off by holding a ruler correctly. We then looked at the side of the ruler with centimetres (cm) and how we measure starting from the 0cm mark. We then measured the length and height of several objects in the classroom in centimetres. The children loved measuring using their rulers! If you have a ruler at home, can you measure objects around your house? Can you find an object that is exactly 12cm long? What objects can you find that are between 6cm and 10cm? Write them down and bring your list into class to show everyone!

English

In our English this week, we have continued our work on Jack and the Beanstalk. This week we have looked at sequencing the story and writing descriptive sentences to describe Jack and the Beanstalk. We looked at powerful adjectives and vocabulary such as towering, majestic, intimidating, furious and enchanted. We then used these words to write sentences about Jack and the Beanstalk. We also looked at conjunctions this week. We looked at how conjunctions such as and, but, so, or, because, when and then can be used to join two sentences that are similar together.  Finally, we independently wrote the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The stories were absolutely fantastic and it was so lovely to see that children had used the vocabulary that was in the story. Well done Hedgehogs! Can you explain to a grown up what the words; towering, majestic, intimidating, furious and enchanted mean? Can you write a sentence using a conjunction?

Topic

In topic, we looked at how the weather and sunlight changes across the four seasons. We created pictograms when looking at the weather and we created bar graphs when looking at how the hours of daylight changes in each season. Which season has the most hours of daylight? Which season has the least number of hours of daylight? Which season is the rainiest? Which season is the sunniest?

Celebration Assembly

This week, I gave out a SUCCESS certificate and two leaves. Well done to all those who received an award this week!

What a great week Hedgehogs, well done!
