WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 27/03/23

It has been a very short, but busy week filled with Sheep-Pigs, calculating perimeter and amazing word costumes.  Read on to find out more…

Within Maths this week we have finished our Length and Perimeter unit.  We focused on calculating the perimeter, with both regular and irregular shapes.  Some of us even moved on to working out missing lengths in rectilinear shapes, then calculating the perimeter.

Next week we will be moving onto fractions.

This week saw the return of World Book Week which meant our English focused on ‘The Sheep Pig’ by Dick King-Smith, our class Guided Reading book.  We planned a diary entry focused on Chapter 5 in which Babe saves Farmer Hogget’s sheep from a pair of sheep rustlers.  The children wrote their diary entry from Babe’s point of view, thinking about all of the features of a diary entry that we had focused on the week before.  The children thought about what happened in each part of the chapter, who was there and how Babe felt.  Due to only having two lessons to focus on this piece of work, it was very impressive to see how quickly the children formulated their ideas and wrote their diary entries the day after.  We also created a character profile for either: Farmer Hogget, Mrs Hogget or Babe.  The children thought about both the character’s external and internal features and reasons for their opinions on the character.

The children all looked amazing on World Book Day, some amazing costumes arrived in our classroom at 8:50.  Thank you for all of the effort you went into creating those.

Apologies for the confusion about spellings this week, the new spellings will be handed out on Monday so we are back to normal again.

We finished off this week by completing our Computing unit: ‘Journey Inside A Computer’.  We completed this by delving inside a tablet, thinking about all of the different components that it has, what they do and how they are both similar and different to a laptop.

We also started a brand new Music unit, this week this involved singing the famous Bob Marley song ‘Three Little Birds’.  The children picked up the melody of this song very quickly and by the end of the lesson we had already learnt the song.  Some super singing skills that have obviously carried on from the Autumn term.

Thank you to those of you who have paid your deposit for our Residential.  If you could please make sure you do this as soon as possible that would be greatly appreciated.  If you have any more questions please email me.

Thank you and I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Stay safe
