WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W.C 28.9.20

The Hedgehogs have been doing some fantastic learning this week! Look below to find out what we have been doing!

English

In our English learning this week, we have been very creative in our writing. We first wrote a section of the story from Oi! Get off our train! The children had to use their own sounds and had to write some clear sentences about a section of their choice. Then afterwards, we learnt how to innovate the story of Oi! Get off our train. Can you tell a grown up what innovate means? We innovated the animal of the train in our story to become a dragon! We collectively thought of ideas as to why the dragon came on the train. Below you will find a picture and a piece of shared writing that we came up with together, using the children's ideas. Can you tell a grown up what animal you would change from the story and what would you change the animal into? Why does that animal want to come on the train? I would love to hear your ideas!

Maths

This week in our Maths learning, we have been learning about how to put numbers onto a number line. We looked at how the numbers can be spread across the number line. We found out that we can represent the numbers in different ways, just like we learnt last week!  Can you draw a number line at home? Could you draw it on the ground using chalk? We then looked at finding one more and one less than a number. We used cubes to show how we can add one more to find one more, and taking away (or subtracting) to find one less. Can you find a number that is two more or two less than a number?

Topic

In our Topic learning, we have been looking at where the animals from our story Oi! Get off our train! are in the world. We firstly looked at what the Earth looks like. The children loved looking at Google Earth to find out more about the world, they were fascinated. I then gave the children an exploration task, by telling the children which continent the animals live in, but not telling the children where the continents were. The children had to work in pairs to find the continents by using an atlas. The children loved finding where the animals lived and where the continents are located. How many continents are there in the world? Can you name them?

Celebration Assembly

We had our celebration assembly and we awarded a RESPECT certificate for fantastic, polite behaviour, and two leaves. We also awarded our first RPS superstar wristband this week! Who will get it next week?

Hedgehogs you have been amazing this week, keep showing us your fantastic learning and behaviour!
