Happy Advent! We have had another packed week in Puffins! Although we have done some assessments this week we have also done lots of exciting things and got our classroom ready for the Festive period.
Within English we have begun looking at Diary Entries linked to the Christmas Truce. We have text mapped an example diary entry, looked at all of the features of a diary entry and created a check list for when we write our own. Guided Reading has seen us finish our whole class book ‘Varjak Paw’ by SF Said. This means that after Christmas we will start a new whole class book. Up until the end of term we will be focusing on our inference, recover and explanation skills using stand-alone guided reading texts.
Maths has involved Year 4 carrying on looking in depth at the different times tables and answering questions that involve them.
Year 5 have begun looking at Perimeter and Area.
Within Science we have carried on learning more about Electricity. We planned and carried out a Science experiment this week that involved us investigating which materials conducted electricity and which acted as insulators. We had lots of fun seeing if our predictions were correct or not.
We have begun planning some lovely Christmas activities that we will complete throughout the next few weeks as well.
Our spellings this week are:
Year 4: Challenge Words – complete, continue, experiment, famous, favourite, February, naughty, knowledge, remember
Year 5: Challenge Words - accommodate, available, controversy, dictionary, marvellous, opportunity, secretary, sincerely, suggest, twelfth.
Could we please remind you to bring in your £1 donation for our Christmas party food, thank you.
We hope you have a lovely festive weekend!
