WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/C 31.10.22

We have had a lovely first week back after the half-term break! We are all ready for a busy but fun half-term!

In maths, we have been looking at fact families. A Fact Family is a collection of related addition and subtraction facts,  made from the same numbers. For example, for the numbers 7, 8, and 15, the addition/subtraction fact family consists of 7 + 8 = 15, 8 + 7 = 15, 15 - 8 = 7, 15 - 7 = 8. Show someone at home what you can do:

This week, we have also been exploring related facts. Have a go at the problems below:

We have used our number bond knowledge to help us with our number bonds to 100. Show someone at home:

10 + __ = 100

20 + __ = 100

30 + __ = 100

40 + __ = 100

50 + __ = 100

By the end of the week, we were adding and subtracting 1s. We used equipment (such as tens and ones) and number lines to help us. Let's have a go:

In English, we have introduced our new unit of work: Conquering a monster Tale! Our story is called 'The Queen's Crown'. Can you tell someone at home what this story is about?

We have also been learning about adverbs this week. An adverb describes the verb (the doing word). Can you spot the adverb in the sentences below?

The monster roared loudly.

He painted his picture carefully.

The boy ran quickly across the playground.

We have also been exploring questions and exclamation sentences. Add a question mark or an exclamation mark to each of these sentences to make them questions or exclamation sentences:

a) What a beautiful day

b) Would you like sugar in your tea

c) What is your name

d) How kind of him to help her

e) Is this a question

f) What a dangerous mountain to climb

In topic, we have been looking at Victorian portraits. We explored photography, paintings and silhouettes. During the Victorian era, silhouettes were an affordable way for people to have portraits made.  We created our own!

Key Messages

  • We are looking for parent volunteers who would be able to walk with our children on the days that we will be visiting the Repton 400 Hall theatre. This will also mean staying with us and helping us walk back to school as well. These walks will take place on the afternoons on Tuesday 13th December, Thursday 15th December and Friday 16th December. If you are free and are available to come and help walk with our children on those days, please could you email me to let know. Thank you to those who have already volunteered and thank you anyone else who is available in advance!

  • We have started our first unit of art this week. We will be working a lot with clay. If you haven't already, please can you provide your child with an old t-shirt or shirt to wear during these lessons as they can get very messy!
