The second week back after half term has provided us with lots of new learning opportunities and exciting things to create and discover.
Within English, we have carried on learning about our unit of Biographies. We have focused on the grammatical features that are often used in Biographies, these include parenthesis and sub-ordinative clauses, we have also created lots of sentences with a variety of conjunctions.
Maths has involved us focusing on prime numbers, square numbers, cubed numbers and multiplying to 10, 100 and 1000. The children have looked at all of the patterns that links these areas too and they found it all very interesting.
We have begun learning about Anne Frank in more detail this week in our Topic lessons too. We talked about how hard a situation the Frank family and the rest of the people who lived in the Annex must have been in and how scared they must have been on a daily basis. It was very humbling to think about the 761 days that they spent living behind Otto Frank’s office in their Annex. And after everything they went through how it was only Otto that survived. To put a name to the experience of being Jewish in World War II has allowed us to understand how difficult living through World War II must have been.
I can’t finish this week’s update without mentioning the most exciting news in Year 5 this week… Miss Jordan becoming Mrs Cotton! As a year group as a whole, we wish her and Mr Cotton the loveliest Wedding day and the best of luck for their future married life together!
Have a lovely weekend,
The Puffins Team
