The Puffins have had another busy week which has included finding the inverse, Maya Gods and a science investigation. Read on to find out more…
In English this week we have begun our new unit of work on Newspaper Reports. We have thought carefully about the features of a Newspaper report and identified them in our WAGOLL. We have also boxed up our WAGOLL so that we know the structured of a Newspaper report. This will help us when we begin writing our own. Maybe you could have a look at some Newspaper reports over the weekend and see if you can spot any of the features we have looked at.
In Maths Year 4 have been adding and subtracting 1’s, 10’s and 100’s. They have thought about what changes and what doesn’t change and if they can work these questions out mentally. They have also looked at adding two 4-digit numbers with more than 1 exchange and subtracting two 4-digit numbers with no exchange. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
Year 5 have also been looking at areas of Maths involving addition and subtraction. They have looked at using the inverse to discover if a question is correct as well as comparing calculations and finding missing numbers using the information we have. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
Our Topic lessons this week have involved us learning about the importance of the Maya Gods and the role the priests had in society. We thought about what the Gods were in charge of and how they were worshipped. We also studied some examples of Maya art, thought about if the sources were accurate and told us about life in the Maya times or were there to deceive us! Our Art lesson was centred around Maya masks, how they were created and why they had them. We then designed our own and will begin creating them out of our milk bottles and paper mâché.
Please rest assured that in the coming weeks I will be relaying lots of information to the cover teacher when they are appointed about the Puffins, ensuring that they know as much as possible about them.
Thank you for your support.
Stay safe
