Happy New Year and welcome back to school. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and are ready and raring to go for this new term. This week has involved exploring Sweden, reasoning and multiplication and learning how to be a teacher! Read on to find out more.
In Maths we have begun the second part of our Multiplication and Division unit. This week so far we have focused on relating calculations together. We have thought about understanding and using multiples of 10 and how knowing times table facts can help us calculate more complex maths equations using bigger multiples of 10. Can you explain why this is True or False, how do you know?
The children worked very hard on their reasoning this week and relating different equations together. Super Maths work!
In English we have begun our new topic of Explanation texts. We have studied our model text ‘How to become a teacher’. We have story mapped and acted out parts of it to help us with learning it and thinking about its structure. We have also looked in more detail at causal conjunctions, identified them in different sentences and created our own.
This week also saw the beginning of our new Geography topic, ‘Sensational Sweden!’. We begun learning about Sweden by introducing ourselves to the main facts about the country. We have learnt about its capital city, it’s currency and also thought a little bit about the famous people who have come from there. Throughout this topic we will learn about both the physical and human Geography of Sweden. We will also do a comparison study with a Swedish town and one that the children are familiar with. We really think that the children will enjoy this topic!
We began our new unit focusing on drawing by sketching still life objects. We thought about how objects can be separated into simple regular shapes which makes them easier to draw. The children also focused on how we can shade to create light and dark areas. The children created some brilliant still life pictures using these skills.
Spellings will be handed out as normal from next Monday. Thank you.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Stay safe
