Week 13 - 15.6.20

Monday - Alternative Spellings of the /i/ phoneme.

Main: Write the words tick and gym. Ask your child to read the words aloud to each other and soundtalk them. Highlight the letters that make the /i/ phoneme in each word.

 

Apply: Use the grid to sort through the words below. Sort the words depending on the spelling of the /i/ phoneme. Put sound buttons underneath each of the words.

Tuesday - Alternative spellings of the /i/ phoneme

Main: Ask your child to identify the two ways of spelling the /i/ phoneme. Ask your child to see if they can spell the words from yesterday. drill, gymnastics, brick, crystal, thin, pyramid, flip, mystery, cygnet, squid. If your child gets the word wrong, see if they can try again using the correct sound. 

 

Apply: Read the sentences attached that contain the /i/ phoneme.

 

Wednesday - Alternative Spellings for the /i/ phoneme

Recap: Play Tricky Word Trucks - if your child can read all the words, why not test your child on spelling them! https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/tricky-word-trucks

 

Main: Read the sentences containing the /i/ phoneme. Highlight the words in one colour that have the i for the /i/ phoneme and using another colour, highlight the /y/ for the other phoneme,

 

Apply: Using the words from the previous two days drill, brick, thin, flip, squid, gymnastics, crystal, pyramid, mystery, cygnet. See if your child can write sentences using these words. Encourage your child to use their phonics knowledge to help them spell!

Thursday - Revising alternative spellings for the /er/ phoneme.

Main: Recap with your child all the different ways of making the /er/ phoneme. Then get your child to read the following words in the Main PDF. Once your child has read them all -  ask your child to play Quickwrite. Ask your child to write down these words as quickly as they can and see if they can use the correct /er/ phoneme! Go through the answers at the end to see how many your child got right.

 

Apply: Read the sentences containing the /er/ phoneme. If your child is comfortable in reading the sentences, can your child write the sentence?
