Week 4

We have had another fabulous and very busy week here in Robins' class.

This week we have been reading the story of the Gingerbread Man.  The children loved the story and enjoyed joining in with the rhyme each time .... "Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!"  In English we discussed the story and made a story map to help us remember it.  We placed pictures in the correct order to tell the story.

We also made gingerbread men this week.  The children enjoyed decorating them their own way.  The classroom smelt lovely as they were baking in the oven.  As you may well know by now, on Wednesday the gingerbread men escaped and ran around our classroom before running away!  Please see the video on our home page entitled "The Gingerbread Man Escapes". The children couldn't believe what they were seeing and it really brought our learning to life.  It also provided lots of opportunities for purposeful writing as the children made "wanted" posters and stuck them up around the classroom.  The children all took their gingerbread men home to eat and we have heard that they were delicious!

In maths this week, we found one more and one less of amounts up to 5.  The children used a five frame to help them visulise the number each time.  They worked in groups to play a game of adding one more or taking one away to find one less.  We also dropped cubes into a metal container and counted the number of cubes dropped.  The children then checked the amount by placing the cubes onto the five frame.

We have also been very busy practising our Christmas concert.  The children have been brilliant at remembering their acting roles and saying their lines.  We do need some more practise but we are getting there! We can't wait to perform for you all in a few weeks time.  We would also like to thank you for helping your child to practise their lines and for sourcing a costume for them to wear.

Next week we will be continuing our work about the Gingerbread Man and continuing to practise our concert.

Exciting times!

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
