This week we have been learning how a caterpillar changes into a butterfly. We looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and watched as it changed on a video. We learned that a butterfly’s wings are symmetrical and made our own symmetrical butterflies with paint and on the smart board. We also printed our own caterpillars with circles and paint. We also made life cycles by cutting and sticking pictures into a life cycle circle.
We used number stories to explore subtraction. The children used 10 frames to help work out the answers to the questions. They then tried to write down the number sentence.
In PE we had our final week of Spy School, where we practised all our moved from the previous weeks, such as slithering, crawling, rolling, balancing and jumping. We put together simple sequences of movements to tie our learning together. The children had a great time and all passed!
Of course, we have also had a great time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The children all looked fabulous in their red, white and blue outfits. They enjoyed their picnic outside on the grass and we all sang the National Anthem in assembly. We had a party with our flags and streamers in the afternoon - it was so much fun. Thank you to parents for coming in to classes and the main hall to see our lovely portraits of her Majesty the Queen. See photos on ‘Latest News’ section of the school website.
Homework
Please continue to read regularly with your child at home. It really is making a great difference. Don’t forget you can also access extra online reading books on Bug Club.

Spelling Shed
Please support your child to practise sounding out and spelling their words on the Spelling Shed app. It helps them to use and apply the sounds they have learned recently in phonics. The children score points every time they practise their spellings on spelling shed and each class competes against each other for fun. The top three scoring classes are read out in assembly each week. Let’s see if our Robins can get onto the leader board next week.

Maths Shed
The children can also access Maths Shed through the same site as Spelling Shed. They have new ‘assignments’ which are games that explore numbers to 10, so please have a play!
