We have had a fantastic first week back in Seals class. We have had an extremely busy week and it has flown by! I was super impressed by the children's colourful firework themed outfits today and thank you for all of the donations.
This week we began our new unit which is all about non-chronological reports. At the beginning of the week we looked at our model text about the International Space Station and created our own text maps to help us learn this. Then we started to look at the features of a non-chronological report, including the layout and language features. After a hard week of learning, children created some amazing sentences about planets using parenthesis and interesting sentence openers!
We have also been very lucky this week as we received an author 'visit' today! Arranged by Repton Literary Festival, Tom Palmer visited us virtually this morning to tell us about his book and what inspired him to become an author. Children thought of questions to ask Tom Palmer and he answered a few of these too which was brilliant! It was lovely to see the excitement on children's faces and extremely positive to hear that the 'visit' inspired children to read more and even write their own book! ( https://tompalmer.co.uk/ )
In Maths this week Year 4's have been looking at measurements and equivalent lengths whilst Year 5 have been completing their statistics unit, looking at tables and timetables. Both year groups have worked extremely hard!
We have also been incredibly busy during the afternoons this week. We enjoyed the film 'Incredibles 2' with some popcorn on Wednesday as a reward for earning our marbles last half term and on Monday we created our very own firework art! Children created some magnificent pieces of artwork that are now proudly displayed in our classroom alongside some beautifully written Bonfire Night poems!
Next week, we will be having a PE session with Premier Sport on Wednesday as well as our normal PE lesson so please can the children come to school in their PE kits on Wednesday AND Thursday.
Have an enjoyable weekend and take care.
