We have had another lovely week in Seals class. It has involved experiments, acrostics and lots of spending!
This week we have been writing acrostic poems. At the beginning of the week we discussed what an acrostic is and identified language features included. The children then planned and wrote their own acrostic poems – one about Repton and one about Summer. They have worked extremely hard to include figurative language in their poems and I am so impressed with the outcomes from everyone!
This week, we have finished our unit of work on Money. At the start of the week, the children role played being shopkeeper and customer. In groups, the children had to work out the cost of a selection of items and identify how much change should be given to the customer. It is safe to say the children enjoyed this activity! Towards the end of the week, we have been solving problems involving money using bar models. This is a tricky concept but the children have shown great resilience!
We have finished our Electricity unit of work this week with an investigation involving conductors and insulators. The children tested a variety of materials to identify whether they are conductors or insulators. We look forward to starting our next topic, ‘Why do we poo?’.
Children have been given some Maths homework today which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 13th May. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
