WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 07.02.22

Our Learning

We have had another great week in Seals class! It has involved speech, fractions and flowers!

English –

We have continued our newspaper reports unit of work this week. At the beginning of the week, we discussed the difference between direct and indirect speech and children wrote sentences using both types of speech. We have also ‘boxed up’ the model text, thinking carefully about the basic pattern of a newspaper report. Children then used this and some research they conducted to plan their very own newspaper report. We cannot wait to begin writing these next week!

Maths –

We have continued our fractions unit of work this week. This has involved converting improper fractions to mixed number fractions, counting in fractions, adding fractions and subtracting fractions! Today, children were given some time to consolidate an area of fractions that they felt less confident with. Next week we will conclude our fractions unit of work.

PSHE –

This week is ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’. The theme this year is ‘Growing Together’, so we spent some time discussing this in the classroom. We spoke about emotions and how we deal with our emotions. We discussed the idea that people can grow emotionally and spoke about what we need to be able to grow, including understanding our emotions, speaking to others and trying new things. Children reflected on their own growth and well-being and drew a flower to represent this. On the stem they wrote the names of the people that support them and in the petals they listed ways in which they can help themselves grow emotionally.

Homework –

Children have been given some Maths homework today which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Thursday 17th. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
