We have had another busy yet fabulous week in Seals class! It has involved eruptions, divisions, discussions and much more!
This week we started our new topic, ‘Discussion Texts’. At the beginning of the week we identified what a discussion text is. We then had several class debates to get our head around the idea that there are two sides to an argument in a discussion text. During the rest of the week, the children have been comprehending our model text and finding features of discussion texts.
We have continued to work on decimals this week. We have been showing tenths on a number line, dividing 1-digit and 2-digit numbers by 10, showing hundredths as decimals and showing hundredths on a place value grid. The children have shown great perseverance in Maths this week and should be very proud of themselves!
This week we have continued to learn about volcanoes. We discovered why a volcano erupts and even created our own volcanic eruptions! We then found out about volcanoes and volcanic eruptions which have taken place over the years in Iceland. Children were tasked with writing a newspaper report, fact file or postcard to show what they have learnt about volcanoes in Iceland!
Children have been given some English homework today which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 18th March. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
