Our Learning
We have had a fabulous first week back in Seals. It has involved tiny people, atlases and written methods!
English –
Our new English unit of work is Fantasy Stories. At the start of the week the children familiarised themselves with our model text through symbol mapping and a reading comprehension. Then, after reading a variety of fantasy story extracts, the children were tasked with finding features for our writing toolkit. Today, children explored a range of Alan Peat sentence types. They then wrote their own Alan Peat sentences to use in a fantasy story.
Maths –
We have continued our multiplication and division work this week. It has involved a recap of multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, using informal written methods for multiplication, multiplying a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number and multiplying 3 digits by 1 digit.
Geography –
Our topic this term is Geography driven, with a focus on the country of Iceland. This week we have been studying maps of the world. This has involved locating and naming the seven continents, locating and naming the five oceans, using latitude and longitude coordinates to locate countries and describing the location of Iceland on a world map. We look forward to learning more about this fascinating country in the weeks to come!
Homework –
Children have not been given a sheet of homework to bring home this week. Instead, we have asked that they practice their spellings and times tables and read at home. Please remember to record any reading at home in your child’s homework diary so that they can earn rewards in school!
