WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week Beginning 12.11.2021

Our Learning

We have had another amazing week in Seals class. It has involved debating, bossy verbs and word problems!

English –

This week, children have been focusing on the features of an instruction text. At the beginning of the week, children unpicked a variety of instruction texts. They thought carefully about the organisational and language features used to produce an effective instruction text. After analysing a number of instruction texts, children created their own nonsense instructions to show off their understanding of the key features required to create a good set of instructions. Towards the end of the week, children innovated our model text and had a go at writing an engaging introduction to a set of instructions.

Maths -

In Maths this week, we started our Multiplication and Division unit of work. So far this has involved multiplying by 10, multiplying by 100, dividing by 10, dividing by 100 and multiplying by 1 and 0. The children have used a variety of methods to support their learning, including using mental strategies for multiplication and division.

Topic –

During our topic lesson this week, we considered whether we believe the Stone Age was successful or not. We brainstormed our ideas before presenting our own ideas in our books. Children thought about the personality traits of the early humans and whether they believe they should be proud of themselves or not. To finish our reflective session, we thought about how/why the Bronze Age began and the impact this had on the Stone Age.

Science –

This week, we conducted our first practical investigation in Science! We explored the volume of sound, using a variety of instruments to support us with our investigation. The aim of the investigation was to identify why and how the volume of sound increases. It is safe to say that the children enjoyed creating lots of noise!

Homework –

Children have been given some Maths homework today which relates to the week we have done throughout the week. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 19th November 2021. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
