Our Learning
What a brilliant week we have had in Seals class! It has involved pizza, chocolate and special visitors!
English –
We have written our very own explanation text this week about the Water Cycle. After writing, the children edited and published their work. The children worked really hard to ensure their final work was presented well and I can confirm that they look absolutely phenomenal!
Maths –
During our Maths lessons this week, we have focused on practicing our times tables. We have completed work sheets, played a variety of games and familiarised ourselves with the official check format in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check which will take place next week (Week beginning 20th June). We encourage children to practice their times tables as much as possible over the weekend!
Science/DT -
We have had a ‘WOW’ week this week that has been jam packed with exciting activities and investigations!
The children have been incredibly lucky this week to have been able to make (and eat!) the healthy pizza that they have designed as part of our ‘Pizza Project’. It was a fantastic experience and we would like to say a massive thank you to Chris the Chef and Mrs Jones for their support with this! The children have since evaluated their pizza project, thinking carefully about not only the pizzas, but the designing and making process too.
We begun our unit of work on materials this week. This has involved comparing and grouping materials according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases, recognising that materials can change state and learning about the Water Cycle. On Wednesday, we were joined by another special visitor! We had the pleasure of joining a livestream hosted by Severn Trent where the children learnt about the Water Cycle, the importance of water and hydration and the effects of plastic pollution. The children thoroughly enjoyed this session and even gave it a 5-star rating! On Thursday, children observed what happens to some materials when they are either heated or cooled. They have shown great enthusiasm for all of our learning this week but seem to have particularly enjoyed the process of melting chocolate and turning it back into a chocolate that they could take home to eat!
Homework –
The children have not been given any homework this week as we would like them to focus all of their attention on practicing their times tables! Please see our class page for useful websites and information about the MTC which will take place on Monday. We ask that children practice their spellings and read at home alongside this.
