We have had another fantastic week in Seals class. It has involved timelines, descriptions, numerals and a Stone Age Kid!
In English this week, we begun our first writing unit, 'Historical Narratives'. We started the week by reading and comprehending the book Stone Age Boy and then our model text, 'Stone Age Kid'. Children recreated scenes from the story through drama and text mapping and I was wowed by some of their theatrical performances! We then looked at features of our model text which made it a good historical narrative. Towards the end of the week, we wrote powerful descriptions for both a character and a setting.
We have continued our place value unit of work this week. We have been rounding to the nearest 10 and nearest 100, counting in 1000's and recognising numbers up to 10,000! Children have been representing numbers up to 10,000 in a variety of ways.
This week, we started to understand more about the Stone Age. We found out what 'prehistory' is and children were amazed by how many years ago the Stone Age was! Children learnt more about the chronology of the ages and produced timelines to show when each of the ages occurred.
Children have been given some English homework today. They have been tasked with creating their very own hero and villain! This is a great opportunity for children to practice writing a powerful character description before we plan our Historical Narratives next week. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 24th September. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.

Have a lovely and restful weekend!
