Our Learning

It has been so lovely for me to be back with the children this week! Our week has been super busy and it has involved adventures, clocks and poo!

English –

In English, we are focusing on writing an adventure story. Last week, the children spent time reading and comprehending the model text. This week, we have delved into the text a little more, thinking carefully about its structure and language features included. Towards the end of the week, the children have been planning their own adventure story in preparation for their ‘Hot Write’ next week!

Maths –

This week, we began our unit of work on time. So far, this has involved telling the time to 5 minutes, telling the time to the minute and understanding AM and PM. The children have worked really hard to understand time this week but we have encouraged the children to use clocks as much as possible at home to further their understanding.

Science –

We have moved on to our ‘Animals, including humans’ topic this week. The first aspect of this unit is the digestive system. Our first lesson in this unit involved exploring digestion and answering the question, ‘Why do we poo?’ The children enjoyed (or at least most of them enjoyed) a very hands-on and yucky experiment to help them understand this! We then moved on to identifying and naming digestive system organs and finding out more about each of their functions!

Homework –

Children have been given some Maths homework today which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Thursday 26^th May. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
