It has been a busy week in Seals class! We have been writing fantasy stories, calculating area and studying maps!
This week, children completed their Hot Write. The imaginary worlds they created in their stories are extremely impressive and imaginative! Children followed their plan to write their stories and edited their work later in the week. We also spent some time learning about 2Ad and Ad, same Ad sentences, some of which the children have added to their wonderful writing! Today, we began to publish a copy of our stories for the writing wall in the classroom.
This week, children have been learning about the area of shapes. At the beginning of the week, the children calculated area by counting squares. Towards the end of the week, they started to make shapes and draw shapes with a given area. To finish our unit of work on area, children were tasked with comparing the area of two or more shapes.
In Topic this week, we have been studying maps. We started by locating the 7 continents, 5 oceans and Iceland on a world map. The children wrote sentences to describe the location of Iceland in relation to the continents, oceans and other countries. Then, we zoomed in on Iceland to learn more about its physical features. We discussed the similarities and differences between and the UK and it is safe to say that the children were amazed by the geography and landscape of Iceland in comparison to England!
Children have been given some Maths homework today which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 4th February. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
